Anarchist Bands in the Woods (1918)

Nestor Makhno (center) and his partisan rebels resisted both White and Red armies in the Ukrainian woods. Makhno's unreliable anarchist leanings were intensified by political intellectuals attached to the movement, who saw it as a realization of their dream of a stateless society. The Bolsheviks eventually drove Makhno and his followers from Soviet territory.
